When you’re tired, stressed, overwhelmed and just need a break, nothing sounds better than taking the day off and spending it at the spa. But, who wants to spend hundreds of dollars? Not me. So, I enjoy all of the stress relief and relaxation that comes with a spa day, but in the comfort of my own home! And with these ideas you’ll be able to have yourself an at home spa day too!
I’ll be sharing my favorite products with you all, but all of this can be done without spending a dime and using what you already have.
If you need a little bit of R&R, I’ve got you covered with this guide to an at home spa day.
Slip Into A Robe
Take a few minutes to sit in your robe and relax. Listen to some relaxing music, sip on a glass of wine and unwind from your day.
Once you’re ready to begin your spa day, start with a dry brushing session. Dry brushing is a great way to exfoliate your skin, improve circulation, encourage lymphatic drainage and even help with cellulite!
Take your brush and start at your feet with upward, circular strokes. This technique is very important if you want to get the benefits of lymphatic drainage, like detoxification.
Use a very light pressure and remember to do upward strokes, moving up your legs, abdomen, back, chest and finally arms and neck.
Usually dry brushes are pretty stiff, so be careful! You really only need a slight pressure for it to be effective.
Take A Relaxing Bubble Bath
There’s nothing more relaxing than indulging in a luxurious bubble bath. No at home spa day is complete without a calming bath. Add a few drops of lavender essential oil, pour in a relaxing bath salt soak or throw in an insanely moisturizing bath bomb to really pamper yourself.
Step into that tub, sink down in the warm water, breathe in the relaxing scents, feel your muscles relax and let your stress melt away.
Aromatherapy With Essential Oils
If you’ve never been to a spa, they always have a candle or essential oils diffusing to add to the relaxing ambiance. Scents are a great way to add to the atmosphere and put you at ease.
So, if all the spas do it, you need to do it, too! Essential oils have so many benefits and will help you be more relaxed during your pamper session.
My favorite relaxing essential oils
Lavender – a beautiful, light floral scent that will instantly relax you
Relaxation Blend – lavender + other relaxing oils like chamomile and patchouli
Stress Relief Blend – calming oils like ylang ylang and patchouli that will help you let go of the day’s stresses

No spa day is complete without getting a wonderful facial and glowing skin! Facials are the best part of the spa experience. You will feel so confident in your glowing skin after your at home spa day.
First, you need to make sure you take off all your makeup and cleanse your face really well. This will ensure that what we put on it is work as effectively as it should.
The steam will help open up your pores so that products can penetrate better and will add tons of moisture back into your skin.
You can just simply boil some water on the stove, take it off and stand over the pot so the steam is hitting your face. This isn’t as relaxing as it could be, so I prefer to use a facial steamer. That way all the steam is directed to your face and it’s not going every which way.
I’ve tried using the DIY method and it does work, but not as well as a dedicated facial steamer. But, it still gets the job done!
Now it’s time to apply a mask. I recommend a clay mask if you are oily, acne prone or have large pores, blackheads, etc that you want to treat. If you have drier skin, you could use a hydrating/moisturizing mask.
If you didn’t steam your face beforehand, I highly recommend you do because the steam will help open up your pores so that the masks can work better! The clay will be able to penetrate deeper into your skin and get rid of clogged pores, dirt, oil and bacteria. And the hydrating mask will be amplified and be able to sink down into the deeper layers of your skin.
Himalayan Clay Mud Mask – a gentle clay mask that will unclog pores, help with oily skin and breakouts without irritating or drying out your skin
Aztec Secret Healing Clay – a very powerful clay mask that will draw out dirt, oil, bacteria from deep in your pores. Note: this is a very intense mask and I would not recommend for dry skin. That said, it is very effective and works great as an acne treatment. Another note, this is just powder so you have to mix it with apple cider vinegar to make the mask. You can also mix with water but mixing it with ACV gives a much better consistency and easier to spread.
Andalou Naturals Rosewater Mask – one of my favorite masks to use when my skin is feeling dry and irritated. It has a very light rose scent (not overpowering) and instantly hydrates my skin and calms it down.
After you take off your face mask, it’s time to do a relaxing massage. You’ll be surprised how tense your facial muscles actually are. I know I tense my face up a lot without even realizing it.
Facial massages will help boost circulation for brighter, glowing skin, increase lymphatic drainage to detoxify and help your products absorb better.
A great tip is to put your tool in the freezer for a few minutes to that it gets nice and cold and the massage will be even more soothing and help with puffiness and inflammation.
Why go to the spa and pay $75 for a body scrub when you can do the same thing at home for free? Seriously, the amount of money spa’s charge is ridiculous. But, that’s a topic for another day.
Sugar scrubs are my absolute favorite way to effortlessly get smooth, soft, moisturized skin. Your skin will feel so so soft you won’t be able to stop touching it!
Now, here comes the fun part! You can make your own sugar scrub with only 2 ingredients! You can add other stuff if you’d like, but it’s not necessary.
DIY Sugar Scrub
- sugar – 1 cup (or you can use salt for a more abrasive scrub)
- oil of your choice – 1/2 cup (olive, coconut, Argan, sunflower, anything works!)
- optional: you can add extras like essential oils, other oils, butters, vanilla, lemon juice
Mix up 1 cup of sugar with 1/2 cup of oil of your choice + any additions you’d like to add. Super simple!
If you don’t want to go the DIY route, there are tons of sugar scrubs on the market. Here are some of my favorites:
Tree Hut Shea Sugar Scrub – this one will have you ready to go on a tropical vacation! If you’re not a coconut fan, it comes in a ton of other scents. It has shea butter, evening primrose oil, safflower seed oil, sweet almond oil, macadamia seed oil, avocado oil and orange oil so it’s extremely nourishing without being heavy or greasy
Blueberry Body Scrub– this scrub smells amazing and the scent lingers after you wash it off. It’s a drier scrub so I find it more abrasive but it works amazingly well at exfoliating and leaves me skin super smooth. It has salt and grape seed oil to nourish your skin. I would recommend this one if you don’t have very dry skin.
Brown Sugar Body Scrub – this scrub is a great balance of great exfoliation and just enough oil to leave it hydrated and soft. It has sweet almond oil, evening primrose oil and apricot kernel oil.
At Home Pedicure
I absolutely love giving myself pedicures at home. One, because I’m very ticklish and two, because pedicures are so expensive!
I’ve found some great products that give me the same results as getting a professional one. Now, I admit that part of it is about the experience and the relaxation. I totally get that. But, when you’re stuck at home or don’t want to spend the money, I’ve got you covered!
First, you want to soak your feet either in your bathtub or if you’re feeling really fancy, a foot spa. Soak your feet for at least 15 minutes. The longer the better.
Second, use a callus remover gel – this is the secret here, y’all. This is how you get a professional pedicure at home. Calluses, rough, dry skin will literally disappear. Just follow the instructions on the bottle.
Finally, apply a thick foot cream with urea to get the softest feet ever! For best results, apply some socks on top and sleep in them. You’ll wake up with the smoothest, softest feet!
Paraffin Wax Treatments
Paraffin wax treatments are a super easy way to get soft skin with no effort at all! Plus, they’re super fun and feel great. I also find them to be relaxing and soothing if you have sore, tired feet or hands.
All you need is one of these and it will do the work for you. Just dip your hands or feet in it, peel it off and reveal super soft skin.
Do A Hair Mask
Hair masks are the best way to instantly nourish, hydrate and strengthen your hair. I pamper my hair any chance I get! And, it’s definitely paid off. I do weekly hair treatments and my hair is the longest and healthiest it’s ever been.
Usually, you’ll want to shampoo your hair, towel dry it and then apply the mask and let it sit. Sometimes you might apply the mask to dry hair, so just read the label of the product you’ll be using to make sure.
I like to leave my hair masks on for at least 30 minutes. Again, the longer the better here. Then, just rinse it out like you would conditioner and you’ll be amazed at the difference.
Here are my favorite hair masks and treatments:
Olaplex Hair Perfector – A must have if you bleach your hair. Even if you’re not blonde! If you use any sort of bleach on your hair you need Olaplex! Yes, it’s expensive, but I have super long hair and one bottle has lasted me over 6 months with 2x monthly use.
OGX Extra Strength Argan Oil Mask – this mask is great if you have dry hair. It nourishes and hydrates without being heavy and won’t weigh your hair down like some masks.
Marc Anthony Grow Long Anti-Breakage Hair Mask– this mask makes my hair feel so soft, smooth and silky, like nothing else I’ve ever tried. Each time I use it I’m amazed at how wonderful my hair feels afterwards.
