The Clinique Moisture Surge is a lightweight, oil-free gel-cream that claims to deliver an immediate 174% moisture boost and keep skin hydrated for up to 100 hours. That’s quite a claim. We’ll take a look at the ingredients list in detail later, but here’s a couple of the features of this best-selling product: 

• Aloe bio-ferment technology – a mix of lactobacillus, activated aloe water and aloe extract powder, this blend deeply infuses the skin with tons of soothing hydration
• Activated aloe water – a supercharged mixture of water and aloe leaf extract to help skin hold on to moisture longer
• Auto-Replenishing technology – a mixture of activated aloe water and caffeine to help stimulate the skin to rehydrate itself, meaning plumper, more hydrated skin

Clinique Moisture Surge Review

As a long time lover of Clinique’s Moisture Surge, I was so excited to get my hands on this new and improved version. I have dehydrated and sensitive skin, which means I was absolutely in love with all the aloe in the ingredients list. 

One thing I loved the most about the original Moisture Surge is how smooth it left my skin. It made an incredible moisturizer and primer for makeup. The new version is even better! It feels cooling, sinks in quickly and leaves the perfect base for an even makeup application.

Instantly after applying, my skin feels refreshed, more hydrated and so plump! It sinks in quickly and doesn’t leave a greasy or heavy residue/feeling.

Clinique Moisture Surge Dupes

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hydrating Water Gel Cream

This is one of the most highly recommended Clinique Moisture Surge dupes. Although it doesn’t have as many hydrating ingredients, it does have a similar gel-cream texture that leaves your skin feeling instantly more hydrated and plump.

This gel-cream has hyaluronic acid and glycerin to draw moisture into the skin while dimethicone helps to seal that hydration in so skin stays plump and hydrated all day and night. Trehalose and yeast extract also work to keep skin hydrated and prevent moisture loss.

It also features Cetearyl Olivate which repairs the skin’s barrier, moisturizes and soothes. When it comes to Clinique Moisture Surge Vs Neutrogena Hydro Boost, they feel very similar in texture and share a few of the same ingredients.

The Hydro Boost Gel Cream is also fragrance-free, dry-free and non-comedogenic. And for those that are wanting something a bit lighter, especially for the summer, they also have a Hydroboost Gel!

Naturium Water Cream

This water cream features sodium hyaluronate, glycerin, aloe and dimethicone just like Moisture Surge, which help to draw moisture into the skin and lock it in. Vitamin E not only soothes and moisturizes, but also protects skin from environmental damage.

Coconut Fruit Juice is a source of all things skin loves: vitamins, minerals, proteins, amino acids, sugars and even growth hormones to keep skin hydrated and health. Plus with tons of plant extracts like Alteromonas Ferment Extract that help soothe and hydrate the skin.

Texture wise, this product is also very similar to the Clinique Moisture Surge, it feels like a big drink of water for your skin, without leaving behind a greasy or sticky feel.

It’s fragrance-free, cruelty-free, paraben free and vegan.

Hada Labo Skin Plumping Gel Cream

This is truly an under-loved dupe for Clinique’s Moisture Surge. It has many of the same ingredients, plus some added extras for even more hydration and moisture.

Three different types of Hyaluronic acid and glycerin help to hydrate the skin while dimethicone locks it in and prevents moisture loss. Urea is also an incredible humectant, which means it can attract moisture and keep it locked in.

Squalane, which is naturally found in our skin’s sebum, helps to keep skin moisturized and prevent transepidermal water loss. Arginine, an amino acid, has incredible moisturizing properties while helping skin with collagen production.

Hydrolyzed collagen is also added which helps keep skin hydrated and moisturized thanks to its humectant and emollient properties.

Etude House Moistful Collagen Cream

The star ingredient in this moisturizer is, you guessed it, collagen. It acts as a humectant and moisturizer to draw water into the skin and keep it locked in. It also helps to prevent aging. Baobab Seed Oil is a nourishing oil that’s packed with good for the skin things like vitamins and fatty acids.

The amino acid Betaine helps to moisturize and protect the skin. Kaolin is not a common ingredient in moisturizers, but it may make this moisturizer more attractive to those with oily skin, as it helps to absorb excess oils.

The downsides to this product: it contains alcohol and fragrance. Although many people can use fragrance in skincare, be careful if you have sensitive skin. I don’t usually recommend products with alcohol, but many people with oily skin love them as they are non-greasy and help to control shine. So, if you’re looking for Clinique Moisture Surge Dupe for Oily Skin, this one is a great choice.

As for the texture, it feels a bit thicker when first applied, but thanks to the clay and alcohol, it dries down matte and feels light on the skin.

Bliss Drench And Quench Cream To Water Hydrator

Glycerin is the star humectant in this moisturizer that helps to draw moisture into the skin while dimethicone locks it in to prevent water loss. A few plant extracts like Chamomile help to keep skin hydrated while soothing redness and irritation.

Vitamin E nourishes and moisturizes while protecting the skin from free radical damage. A form of retinol, Retinyl Palmitate, helps stimulate collagen, smooth skin texture, fade hyperpigmentation, reduce fine lines and wrinkles and treat acne.

A form of Vitamin C called Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate helps to brighten skin tone and protect and repair damage. Milk Thistle Oil acts as a source of fatty acids to keep skin moisturized and strengthen the skin’s barrier.

Although this product does have fragrance, it’s still a great option, especially for those who want something with a little extra power.

The texture of this water cream is pretty darn exact to that of the Clinique Moisture Surge. It feels cooling, refreshing and very hydrating without being tacky.

Elf Super Hydrate Moisturizer

With a few of the same ingredients, plus a bunch of other skin-loving additions, this is a super affordable dupe for Moisture Surge. Glycerin and Trehalose help to keep skin hydrated while dimethicone locks it all in.

Niacinamide strengthens the skin’s barrier, reduces pore size, controls oil production and brightens the skin. Squalane works to moisturize and protect the skin. Centella Asia soothes irritation and reduces redness, while antioxidants like Vitamin E and Snow mushroom extract protect the skin and repair damage.

This product is more of a gel than a gel-cream, so those with oilier skin types will like this. It’s also a great option for those with sensitive skin.  

Fourth Ray Beauty Good Mood Gel Moisturizer

A lightweight gel moisturizes that has, dare I say it, more hydrating capabilities than Moisture Surge? It’s packed with tons of extracts that help soothe and hydrate the skin. Hyaluronic acid and glycerin draw moisture into the skin while dimethicone keeps it from escaping.

Tons of extracts like Apple Fruit Extract, Green Tea, Calendula Extract, Cucumber Fruit Extract and Watermelon Fruit Extract, as well as Rose Water, provide antioxidant protection and lots of soothing hydration.

Vitamin E provides even more antioxidant protection while helping to keep the skin moisturized.

Texture wise, it’s pretty spot on compared to Clinique’s Moisture Surge. It even has a similar pink tint. If you’re looking for a dupe that has even more soothing power, this one is a great option.

Clinique Moisture Surge Dupe: Wrap Up

Is Clinique Moisture Surge worth it? While it’s a great product, especially after its reformulation, it’s still pretty pricey. Although one jar lasts a long time, many would prefer to not spend as much on a single product. These Clinique Moisture Surge Dupes are super affordable and will save you money while keeping your skin hydrated and moisturized.

While there are many dupes, there is one in particular that many people rave about. Is Neutrogena Hydro Boost a dupe for Clinique Moisture Surge? While it’s not an exact dupe, it does come pretty close. It has a very similar texture and feel on the skin, but it is missing many of the same ingredients. However, it’s a great drugstore dupe that is readily available at most stores.
