Getting beautiful, healthy skin doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive. No, you don’t need a 20 step skin care routine, either! All you need are a few simple rules to follow and you’ll have healthy, glowing skin in no time!
I used to treat my skin terribly, and at the time, I didn’t even know I was treating it badly. But now, after implementing these skin care tips, I have the best skin I’ve ever had. I guarantee that if you follow these skincare tips and upgrade your skincare routine, you will have healthy skin that glows just like me.
And, while you’re at it, check out my post on skincare mistakes you should avoid to make sure you aren’t doing any of these that could harm your skin.
WASH YOUR FACE EVERY NIGHT
This is the most important tip here! Take off your makeup and wash your face every. single. night. If you go to bed without washing your face, think of all that dirt, bacteria, makeup and grime that’s being left on your skin.
Leaving all of that on your face overnight can cause so much skin damage and lead to fine lines, acne, blackheads and clogged pores.
Your skin also repairs itself overnight and it can’t repair itself very well if there’s tons of stuff sitting on top of it! So, make sure you wash your face daily and you’ll be on your way to healthy skin in no time!
My favorite gentle cleansers for all skin types:
Neutrogena Ultra Gentle Hydrating Cleanser
Neutrogena Ultra Gentle Foaming Cleanser
La Roche Posay Hydrating Cleanser
DRINK LOTS OF WATER
Yes, your skin need water, too! And lots of it. If you’re one of those people that survive on 10 cups of coffee throughout the day, then I’m sorry, but you need to lay off the caffeine and pick up a bottle of water.
I know some people don’t like the taste of water. So, if you don’t like the taste of water, there are tons of flavorings you can buy so that you’re still getting all the benefits of drinking water but it also tastes great!
Making sure your body is hydrated is a great way to ensure that you have healthy skin from the inside out!
MOISTURIZE EVERY SINGLE DAY
Moisturize your skin no matter what! Even if you have the oiliest skin in the word, you need to moisturize it! Did you know moisturizing your skin can actually make it less oily? You can read my in-depth post on this here.
Moisturizing your skin helps with skin repair, anti-aging and general skin health! Plus, most moisturizers have some other added benefit, like brightening ingredients or anti-aging properties.
Here are my favorite moisturizer recommendations:
Neutrogena Hydroboost Hyaluronic Acid Water Gel Moisturizer
Bliss Drench & Quench Cream To Water Moisturizer
Simple Water Boost Hydrating Gel Cream
EXFOLIATE REGULARLY
Exfoliating regularly will help with anti-aging, acne, dark spots, scars, oily skin, large pores, dull skin, rough skin and sun spots. So, pretty much everything. See why it’s so important?
Exfoliation is the best way to get rid of dead skin cells and reveal beautiful, healthy skin underneath. If you want beautiful, glowing skin, you need some chemical exfoliants.
How often you need to exfoliate will just depend on your skin type and what exfoliator you’re using. You can read my guide on exfoliation here to make sure you’re exfoliating properly and getting the most benefit out of your exfoliator.
USE A FACE MASK WEEKLY
Face masks are a great way to up your skincare routine! Plus, they have so many benefits and are very customizable to your skin concerns.
Whether you want to fight breakouts, hydrate or sooth or skin, or fade acne scars, there’s a mask out there for you! Face masks are a quick and easy way to pack a punch and see instant results.
Here are my favorite masks:
Freeman Glacier Water Hydrating Mask
My Beauty Diary Black Pearl Sheet Mask
USE SILK PILLOWCASES
Silk is much gentler on your skin and hair because it will cause less friction and tugging on your skin throughout the night.
With silk, you also won’t wake up with those lines all over your face. Because of this, it’s a great not-so-well-know anti-aging tip!
Plus, the silk feels so luxurious and soft on your skin. Another added benefit is that your skincare products will stay on your skin and won’t absorb into your pillow as much, so you know you’re getting the maximum benefit from your skincare products.
Here are my favorite silk pillowcases and sheets:
USE A HUMIDIFIER
A humidifier is a must if you live in a dry climate! The humidifier will help put moisture back into the air and your skin can absorb that moisture.
When your skin lacks moisture it can be dull and rough and lead to fine lines, breakouts and sensitivity. So, making sure your skin is nice and hydrated is super important!
Depending on your skin and your environment you might only need to use it at night, or you might prefer using one all the time. They make personal ones you can set on your desk and bigger ones to help humidify your room.
Cool Mist Large Humidifier With Remote
Cool Mist Humidifier For Small Rooms
CHOOSE THE RIGHT PRODUCTS FOR YOUR SKIN TYPE
Tailoring your skincare products to your specific skin type is the most important part of skincare! If you have dry skin and are using a lightweight moisturizer meant for oily skin, then chances are your skin is parched and dehydrated.
If you are not using the optimal skincare products for your skin type, you will not see good results.
Choosing the right products will take some research and trial and error. If you have any questions feel free to email me or comment down below and I’d be happy to give you some recommendations!
USE SPF
SPF is one of the best anti-aging ingredients you can use. Unfortunately, a lot of people overlook it as an anti-aging product. But, really, it’s one of the best anti-aging out there!
Protecting yourself from the sun is not only important for great skin, but also your health! As someone who deals with cancer patients and see hundreds of skin cancers a year, please take my word for it and use sunscreen!
USE ANTI-OXIDANTS
Anti-oxidants are the 2nd best (remember, sunscreen first!) anti-aging ingredient that belongs in your skincare routine! Anti-oxidants have so many great properties and benefits!
They can help with anti-aging, fine lines, wrinkles, acne, acne scars, sun spots, dull skin and skin tone. See, they’re an all around great ingredient that everyone can benefit from! I mean who doesn’t wanting glowing skin?
You can read my guide on antioxidants here and learn how to pick the best one for your skin type and skin concerns!

Are any of these rules a part of your healthy skincare routine? If not, I encourage you to try them and see how much of a difference these tips make! I hope you try these out and get the healthy skin of your dreams.
