Positive Affirmations For Anxiety
Anxiety is something that has plagued everyone at some point in their lives. The constant worry and negative thoughts. Your mind just won’t turn off. That’s why positive affirmations for anxiety can be such a huge relief. By replacing those constant negative thought with positive ones.
Some people may only experience anxiety for a short period, and others have anxiety every single day. No matter what, anxiety can be extremely debilitating.
I was always a very anxious person, but when I started college, my anxiety shot through the roof. I know how hard it is to deal with anxiety on a daily basis and how debilitating it can be on your life and your mind.
When I started looking for ways to cope, positive affirmations and meditation were the most recommended options. What I liked about positive affirmations for anxiety is that you can do them anywhere! Repeat them to yourself in your head when you’re feeling anxious. And you can tailor them to you and your situation.
So, what’s all the hype about positive affirmations for anxiety, stress and depression? Well let’s find out!
What Is Anxiety
Much like stress, anxiety is your body’s natural reaction to situations that are unfamiliar, stressful or even dangerous. Generally, with anxiety one will have excessive worries about an event, situation or even just have constant worrying thoughts about everything.
Some anxiety is actually a good thing, like when you’re actually in danger. Anxiety helps keep you alert and prepared. However, certain every day, routine situations can cause excessive worry and fear and can interfere with our daily lives.
And when you have anxiety, it certainly does not feel like a good thing.
What Are Positive Affirmations
Positive affirmations are simply positive thoughts or phrases. They are used to replace negative thoughts that one might have. This is why positive affirmations for anxiety can have such a huge impact.
Put simple, positive affirmations are things you can say to yourself when you’re stressed, anxious or nervous.
Instead of constantly thinking those negative thoughts that come with anxiety, you replace them with more positive, happy thoughts.
When you use positive affirmations you will be changing your thinking from negative to positive. This will not only help with anxiety, but give you a better outlook on life and make you feel happier.
By using positive affirmations, you are taking control of your mindset.
You’re not letting negative thoughts or worries control your mind.
Positive affirmations can be anything! A quote from someone famous, your life mantra, even something you just make up on your own. As long as it’s something that can help you think and be more positive, then that’s all that matters.
The good thing about positive affirmations is that they can be used for so much more than anxiety. Positive affirmations for social anxiety, positive affirmations for confidence building, positive affirmations for stress to just name a few! You can even find positive affirmations for all types of anxiety disorders and positive affirmations for anxiety and depression, even spiritual affirmations for anxiety. How cool is that? They really are something that everyone can tailor to their needs.
How Do Affirmations Really Work?
Just as a disclaimer here, positive affirmations won’t cure your anxiety. It’s not something that can completely get rid of anxiety disorders or stress. Using positive affirmations for anxiety is simply a way to help cope with anxious thoughts and feelings.
Affirmations work by activating your brain’s reward system, which can help you cope in times of emotional or physical stress.
Affirmations can also change your self-perception and mindset. When you have a strong, positive mindset and you believe in your capabilities, you will be better able to face any challenges that come your way.
And that’s where positive affirmations come in. They sort of train your brain to be more positive. To lift yourself up instead of tearing yourself down.
Do Affirmations Work For Anxiety?
In short, yes, positive affirmations do work for anxiety. How? They help by reducing the feelings of stress, anxiety, nervousness and any other emotional distress in times of high anxiety or stress.

Positive Affirmations For Anxiety
These calming affirmations for anxiety are my go-to affirmations anytime I’m feeling stressed out. They really do help calm my anxious mind and put me at ease. These can also be used as positive affirmations for stress. Oftentimes, anxiety and stress go hand in hand. Really, anytime you’re feeling unsure or nervous, these positive affirmations are great!

Positive Affirmation #1
Instead of thinking “Why me?” “Why am I struggling and no one else is”, think:
“This situation is not permanent”
“I will get through this”
“This will be over soon enough”
The truth is, no situation is permanent. This season will pass. Everyone struggles. Just because you don’t see them struggling, doesn’t mean they aren’t. Don’t compare yourself to other people.
Ever heard the saying “comparison is the thief of joy?” The older I get the more I find that to be true. We all compare ourselves to others, more often than we’d like to admit. But, the truth is, it’s absolutely horrible for our mental health!
Positive Affirmation #2
Instead of thinking “I can’t do this” “I’ll never be able to accomplish this” “I’m not good enough,” think:
“I got through ________”
“I accomplished _________, _________ and _________, I can do this, too”
Think about how much you have already accomplished in your life. You are strong. You can handle this, too. Be proud of all of your accomplishments thus far and don’t put a limit on what you are capable of.
Positive Affirmation #3
Instead of thinking “Anxiety controls my life” “Anxiety is awful,” think:
“Anxiety does not control me”
“Anxiety does not define me”
“I am free from anxiety”
While it’s true that anxiety is not something anyone wants to have, you should be careful to not let it affect what you can do. Just because you have anxiety does NOT mean you are weak, incapable or a failure.
Positive Affirmation #4
Instead of thinking “Why is this happening?” “Why can’t I do anything right?” think:
“I can only control myself”
“The situation is out of my hands”
“There’s nothing I can do to change this”
We are always quick to blame ourselves. Sometimes too quick. Many times the situation is out of our control. Yet we blame ourselves anyway. Why?
The only thing you are ever in charge of is yourself. You can only ever control yourself. You cannot control other people or situations. No matter how much you’d like to be able to.
Positive Affirmation #5
Instead of thinking: “What’s going to happen?” “I wish I knew how things would turn out” think:
“I trust things will work out”
“Everything will work out the way it should”
“I am hopeful for the future”
If only we could see into the future and be able to put our mind’s at ease. Thinking about the future is really something that gives me serious anxiety. It’s the unknown. And the unknown can be very scary!
When I start to worry about the future, I repeat these to myself and I’m learning to trust the process of life.
Positive Affirmation #6
Instead of thinking: “Why don’t I have this?” “Why can’t I be more like ____?” think:
“I am grateful to be healthy”
“I love _____, ______ and _______ about myself”
“I’m thankful to be alive”
Don’t think about what you don’t have! Think about what you do have and how lucky you are to have it. Pick out a few features that you love about yourself. Write them all down. You’ll come up with a lot more than you think.
Positive Affirmation #7
Instead of thinking: “I’m scared” “I don’t know what’s going to happen” think:
“I’m not in any real danger”
“I am not alone”
“I have nothing to worry about”
This is one of my favorite positive affirmations for anxiety because worrying about what’s going to happen is something I struggle with a lot. These positive affirmations remind me that what I am worried about is really not something to get so worked up about.
Positive Affirmation #8
Instead of thinking: “Why am I being challenged like this?” “I am struggling with this” think:
“This is an opportunity to learn”
“I can use this to grow”
Instead of thinking about why this is happening, use it as a challenge to grow. See it as something to learn from, instead of something negative.
Positive Affirmation #9
Instead of thinking “I am so worried and anxious”, think:
“I am inhaling peace and exhaling worries”
Yes, it sounds silly, but it really helps! Breathing exercises combined with positive affirmations for anxiety and the best combination to instantly calm anxiety. If I feel anxiety coming on, I will focusing on taking deep breaths and repeating positive affirmations in my mind.
Positive Affirmation #10
Instead of thinking “this is embarassing” “what are people thinking of me” think:
“No one is judging me”
“People aren’t concerned with what I can and can’t do”
“What people think doesn’t matter as long as I believe in myself”
The fear of judgement from other people can be a huge source of anxiety in our lives. A lot of times we are so worried about our own behaviors and what people are thinking of us that we don’t even realize most people don’t pay any attention. And if they do? Let it go! You are capable, strong and can accomplish anything.
These positive affirmations for anxiety are very general so that they can be used to many different situations you may find yourself in.
Next time you feel anxiety starting, use the positive affirmations and see if they help you. It’s best to make them a habit and use positive affirmations every day to help your mindset.
Eventually those negative thoughts will stop taking over your life.
