There can be a number of reasons why your skin is lackluster and dull. Stress, environment, lifestyle. But the biggest factor is skincare. Skincare is super important for skin health and appearance! After all, your skin is your body’s largest organ! So, you should make sure to take care of it, and it will thank you for it.
I, a skincare junkie, am going to share my top 3 ingredients with you to get you that healthy, luminous skin you’ve always dreamed of. I’ve tried plenty of fancy (and expensive!) products and ingredients that claimed to give me that glow.
Unfortunately, most of them did nothing but irritate my skin. And, contrary to popular belief, you don’t need a 20 step skincare routine to achieve healthy glowing skin! A friend of mine, and a fellow skincare enthusiast/beauty blogger, wrote an awesome post on how to streamline your skincare routine. Because honestly, you don’t need 10 different products to get great skin! All you need are a few products with the right ingredients.
So, through lots of trial an error, I give you the only 3 ingredients you will ever need to achieve amazing skin.
HYALURONIC ACID
The key to beautiful skin is HYDRATION. When your skin is dry and dehydrated, it will appear dull and be rough in texture. Hyaluronic acid is naturally found it our skin. Its function is to hold onto water, which in turn plumps skin and keeps it hydrated all day long.
Hyaluronic acid is in a ton of products, so you shouldn’t have trouble finding one. Hyaluronic acid can be in a toner, serum or moisturizer. I prefer hyaluronic acid serums, as I feel they hydrate more. BUT, skincare is so individualized, that there’s really no right or wrong.
You don’t have to spend a lot, either. I get my serum from Amazon and it’s just over 10 bucks! Amazon has plenty of options, and hey, that two day shipping is pretty nice too. So, go do some shopping and remember, hydrated skin equals happy skin.
CHEMICAL EXFOLIANT
A chemical exfoliant is just an acid, like glycolic acid, lactic acid or salicylic acid or retinol. There are lots of others, but those are main ones you will see the most. Chemical exfoliants work by unclogging pores and shedding dead skin cells. When you have a lot of dead skin cells, it can cause your skin to appear very dull and feel rough.
If you have acne prone skin, I would go with Salicylic acid. If you have more sensitive skin, I would pick something with Lactic Acid. And if you have normal skin, I would look for Glycolic Acid. A retinol is something that anyone can benefit from, no matter what your skin concerns are. But, you really can’t go wrong because they really all have the same function and will get rid of that dull, lackluster skin.
Again, these can come in many different forms, and it just depends on your preference. One warning, a lot of chemical exfoliant products do contain denatured alcohol and that is a HUGE no for you skin. Avoid those products at all costs.
VITAMIN C
Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant that everyone should use in their skincare routine. Vitamin C will not only brighten your skin, but will fade discolorations and help with anti-aging. It’s is something that really anyone will benefit from, no matter your skin concerns.
My absolute favorite Vitamin C Serum is from Amazon, as well. I’ve tried a handful of different ones and I always come back to this one (I’ve purchased it TEN times!). Works amazingly well and doesn’t smell weird (some vitamin c serums smell like hot dogs). It is a little more expensive, but worth it to me because of the results. When I first started using it, I noticed a difference within two days! However, there are plenty of other options on Amazon as well, that are cheaper. A lot of times you can even find a vitamin c serum with hyaluronic acid in it, so you kill two birds with one stone!
Hopefully you found this helpful, and will pick up a new product or two to try out. Let me know if you try any of these and how they worked for you!
