I always thought you had to be really flexible to be able to do yoga, but that’s not the case! It’s very easily modified for beginners or those that are not flexible.
The good thing about yoga, is that you can make it work for you. Just do what feels good! There aren’t a lot of rules when it comes to yoga, so just try it out and see if you like it.
Relaxing Before Bed
In order for yoga to help you sleep better, you need to make sure you are able to do your yoga poses and then go right to bed. It’s best to commit time before bed for relaxing activities. You don’t want to do yoga and then have to hang up laundry, cook dinner and do the dishes.
You can also do yoga before or after other relaxing activities like reading, journaling, taking a bath etc. This is a great idea if you have some extra time and want to relax.
Check out my post on reducing stress for relaxing things to do before bed.
How Yoga Can Help You Sleep
Yoga is a very relaxing form of exercise that helps you focus on your breath and your body. This relaxes the mind so you aren’t worrying and stressing yourself out. Instead, you will be relaxed, less stressed and ready for a good night’s sleep.
Yoga is my favorite way to unwind before bed and let the stress of the day just melt away. When I do yoga before I go to sleep, I always sleep so much better.
No matter what poses you do, yoga will relax you and get you ready to drive off to sleep. However, there are certain poses that will be more beneficial if you’re really wanting to sleep better.
Yoga Poses For Better Sleep

These yoga poses are the best if you want to get a good night’s sleep. You can pick and choose a few or do them all! Yo isn’t very strict, just do what feels good. If you like a particular pose, stay in that pose longer. You can do 30 seconds-1 minute for each pose or just go with the flow based on how you feel.
Some of these poses can be done in bed. So, if you find yourself laying in bed not being able to fall asleep, do a few of these yoga poses and see if they help you fall asleep.
