Pores are a natural part of your skin, so there’s no getting rid of pores. However, there are some things you can do to help reduce the appearance of pores. If your pores bother you, it’s most likely because they are clogged and you can do something about that!

Pores can also become stretched out, and there are also ways to shrink pores back down.

However, you must remember that pores are normal and you can’t get rid of them. So don’t think by doing these things you will magically have a poreless skin! But you can shrink large pores and help reduce their appearance so they look smaller.

What Causes Large Pores

There are many different causes of large pores, but oftentimes with the right skincare routine, you can decrease the appearance of your pores pretty easily. Let’s look into what causes large pores:

1. Genetics

Unfortunately, genetics can play a role in your pore size. If your family also has large pores, chances are the cause of your large pores is likely genetics. And that’s okay, because with the right products you can still help your pores look smaller and less visible.

2. Clogged Pores

When you’re pores have dirt, oil or bacteria in them, it causes them to stretch and appear bigger. Keeping your pores clear will make them look smaller.

3. Dehydrated or Dry Skin

Dry or dehydrated skin can make your pores more visible either because your moisture barrier or damaged or because your skin is overproducing oils from your pores.

4. Oily Skin

If you naturally have oily skin, then your pores will likely be larger because they produce more oil.

How To Reduce Pore Size

Moisturizng

When your skin is dry or dehydrated, or your moisture barrier is damaged, it can cause your pores to look larger. Moisturizing is key to keeping your skin barrier strong and your skin healthy, hydrated and moisturized.

BHA

BHA’s are one of the best products for large and visible pores. BHA’s work by unclogging the pores and removing any dirt, bacteria or oil from the pores. When your pores are clogged, they appear larger and can lead to blackheads which makes them more visible.

Retinol

Retinols are also great at reducing the appearance of pores. They work by shedding dead skin cells so they don’t get trapped in your pores. This means that your pores will stay clear and look smaller.

Additionally, retinol stimulates collagen production which helps tighten pores so they look smaller.

Cleansing Well

This may seem like a given, but there are lots of people out there who don’t regularly cleanse their skin! When you don’t cleanse properly, your skin will be dirty and can lead to all that dirt, oil, bacteria, etc. getting trapped in your pores. Which makes your pores look bigger.

I personally think most people should only cleanse once a day, but obviously that’s up to you and your skin. Just make sure you are cleansing at least once a day, but never more than twice a day.

If you wear makeup or sunscreen, look into double cleansing to ensure you are getting everything off your skin and keeping your pores clear.

Do you have large & visible pores? I naturally just have larger pores, but since changing up my skincare routine, my skin has become less oily and my pores look so much smaller than they used to!

Remember, pores are natural and everyone has them! Trust me, in real life, no one actually looks like those poreless Instagram filters! It’s ok to have visible pores.
